Bremont Townhouse 2019

Bremont Townhouse 2019

The end of February 2019 saw Bremont’s series of Townhouse events in London, showcasing their latest releases and many of their current catalogue as well. A great opportunity to see what’s new from the brand, and not one to miss.

Inside the event, a lot of effort had gone into the theme and decoration, having set up some superb displays of military uniform, reflective of their latest release – the Armed Forces Collection. Within the main exhibition room were some excellent displays, showcasing not only the latest releases, but examples of timepieces from Bremont’s military projects adorned with insignia on the dials. The respective civilian editions obviously don’t have these features, so it was wonderful to have the opportunity to see the timepieces born of these projects:

After exploring these displays, it was time to get hands on. The new Armed Forces collection was fantastic. Each is adorned with HMAF on the dial (Her Majesty’s Armed Forces), and the casebacks all feature an ‘Approved by Her Majesty’s Armed Forces’ inscription as well. There are three different models in total, one for each wing of the Armed Forces: the Broadsword for the Army, the Arrow for the Air Force, and the Argonaut for the Navy.

The collection takes inspiration from the original ‘Dirty Dozen’ watches from the 1940s; this collection however has not been commissioned by the MoD, but inspired by them for civilian use. Each model within the collection is chronometer certified and will be available widely as these are not limited editions.

Each timepiece looks and feels very comfortable on the wrist. The Armed Forces Collection marks the first time Bremont have not employed their Trip-Tick case structure, opting here for two-piece stainless steel casing that is 40mm for the Broadsword, and 42mm for the Arrow and Argonaut. On the sides of the cases the three lines synonymous with the Trip-Tick remain, engraved into the casing by the crown. Additionally, there is a new sailcloth material strap which is extremely comfortable, and each strap’s colour has been carefully matched to its counterpart wing of the Armed Forces – Army Khaki green for the Broadsword, RAF blue for the Arrow, and Navy blue for the Argonaut. All in all, the Armed Forces collection is a wonderful addition to the Bremont catalogue and these will doubtless become a very popular choice for everyday wear.

Moving elsewhere around the Townhouse, there were some real treats on offer for aviation enthusiasts – something one might reasonably expect from Bremont! Highlights included the opportunity to see some of the limited edition aviation timepieces, including the Wright Flyer. This is truly a piece of unique aviation history; each timepiece incorporates a small piece of wood from the original Wright Flyer aircraft into a wonderfully designed rotor that includes the initials of Wilbur and Orville Wright. Having the opportunity to try this on was something special, and it really didn’t disappoint.

Next up, the Supersonic collection – a series of limited edition timepieces which contain a ring of Aluminium from Concorde herself, culminating in another piece of incredible aviation history. The Supersonic looks more special up close, and this is in no small part again thanks to the incredible attention to detail that Nick and Giles English put into their timepieces; for example, the leather strap on the stainless steel model is in Concorde blue and made by Connolly, the same company who provided the leather seats on Concorde, and the paint technique on the dial is the same used for painting the Concorde, too.

Technically these are just as impressive, with Bremont’s first manually wound calibre offering an impressive 8 days power reserve, and incorporating a beautiful Concorde silhouette built into the calibre. This experience was made even more enjoyable when Giles English (wearing his Supersonic in rose gold!) stopped for a quick chat about the Supersonic project. Overall, the Supersonic collection took Bremont about 2 years to formulate, and Giles explained that the aluminium rings were comprised of a number of old spare parts which were used on the Concorde and swapped out – “we wouldn’t want to take her apart!” he said. The spares were melted down and then after consulting with a number of companies about how best to incorporate the metal, they settled on stamping the aluminium rings for each timepiece.

Available in stainless steel (300 pieces), rose or white gold (100 pieces each), the Supersonic is a wonderful collectors’ piece that comes with an equally impressive and theatrical display box.
